We are incredibly excited to announce that Databricks has made its inaugural appearance in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Analytics and Business Intelligence (ABI) Platforms 2026. Databricks debuted in the quadrant as a "Visionary". We also achieved one of the highest "Completeness of Vision" scores among all vendors evaluated.

This marks the highest debut performance any vendor has ever had in the 20+ year history of this Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ report. We believe this recognition validates our core thesis: the fundamental nature of BI has changed, and the future belongs to data platforms that inherently fuse analytics with enterprise AI. Legacy BI tools were built for a different era: one defined by rigid data models and heavy data extracts that tied data teams up with answering basic questions, rather than freeing them to drive high-value, strategic analysis. The days of locking data into proprietary BI silos to build backward-looking dashboards have already ended.

The Market Shift: Validation of a New Era

Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Analytics and Business Intelligence highlights this massive change in the industry. We see our strong placement in the Magic Quadrant as a direct result of our ability to deliver on three major trends reshaping businesses today:

  • Data & AI Platform Convergence: Bringing different tools together into a single platform reduces everyday complexity, streamlines workflows, and makes it easier to scale AI infrastructure. This union enables the global boom in AI adoption by ensuring company-wide data use is consistent and governed.
  • Agentic Analytics: AI agents are transforming data management, analysis, and decision-making. By automating manual workflows, they help organizations move faster and drive greater business value.
  • Semantics at the Core: A unified, governed semantic layer gives every human and agent the same definitions, context, and rules. It is critical to safely scale autonomous agents and agent-to-agent workflows. Without it, conflicting interpretations create too much risk of error.

Delivering on the Vision

Platform Convergence with the Data + AI Platform

For decades, traditional BI forced a bad tradeoff: copy data into separate systems—fracturing governance and analyzing stale information—or pay extra for bespoke engines to query it in place. Augmented BI did not change that foundation; it simply layered forecasts and anomaly detection onto the same incomplete data picture.

Truly agentic BI requires eliminating every information silo so agents can reason over the full, governed context. Agents are only as smart as the part of the picture they can access, and incomplete context creates unreliable answers. That is why Databricks integrates BI directly into the lakehouse. With Genie and AI/BI, agents work from the same complete, governed source of truth—without extracts, duplicated data, or a separate BI layer.

Agentic Analytics with Databricks AI/BI and Genie

Databricks’ agentic analytics offering eliminates manual bottlenecks by automating complex workflows, empowering teams to move faster from insight to autonomous action and drive significantly greater business value. Databricks AI/BI pushes business intelligence beyond basic queries into dynamic, action-oriented workflows. Genie One, our data-smart AI coworker, seamlessly connects insights to smart actions, eliminating the manual steps typically required between finding a data point and acting on it. Furthermore, Genie Agents allow teams to turn simple prompts into shareable, independent agents capable of reasoning through both structured data tables and messy, unstructured documents. By taking autonomous action to manage schedules, generate documents, and execute complex multi-step workflows across your business tools, these capabilities drastically reduce manual toil.

Semantics at the Core with Unity Catalog Business Semantics and Genie Ontology

Trusted AI and BI start with a shared understanding of your business. Unity Catalog Business Semantics lets you define metrics, dimensions, relationships, and business terms once, then govern and apply them consistently across dashboards, analytics, and agents. Genie Ontology builds on that foundation by automatically organizing context from data, queries, dashboards, pipelines, and connected tools into a living map of how your business works. Together, they help Genie know where to look, what to trust, and how to answer complex questions with complete, governed business context.

Driving the BI Market Forward

BI has already changed. It is no longer just about building dashboards and reports in advance for a specific part of the business. The new model is dynamic and proactive. Insights are pushed to you, not just pulled when you ask for them. Anyone can dig deeper from a high-level trend down to the real truth behind it, and AI agents make sure every answer tells the full story.

That new world is exactly where we are ahead with Genie and Databricks AI/BI. Business users rely on it every day to see key trends, understand what changed and why, and decide what to do about it instantly. By bringing insights directly to where you work—whether that is through mobile apps, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or custom AI assistants—we are truly putting data in the hands of everyone in the company.

We are grateful to the thousands of customers who have partnered with us to push the limits of what is possible with their data. Being named a Visionary with the highest debut performance in the history of the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Analytics and BI Platforms is an incredible milestone, and it is only the beginning.
