You're traveling across Europe promoting this idea of sovereign.
0:02
Why is it still sovereign if it's built on American ships?
0:06
Yes. Uh, sovereignty basically means that you
0:09
have to control your own experience. And in the case of AI, that means
0:12
control your own data, your data, your life experience, your, you know, company
0:16
experience, or your country's culture values, um, the institutional knowledge
0:23
of your people. Uh, the flywheel of creating more data,
0:27
more experience, more intelligence that belongs to you.
0:30
And, uh, the computer is, is just an instrument.
0:34
And so that's one. The second is, is sovereignty means that
0:38
nobody could deny you service. You know, like I say, like
0:42
infrastructures, like electricity is like an internet.
0:45
It's like water. And and, uh, those are critical
0:49
resources and critical infrastructure for your society and your companies.
0:53
You can't you can't ever have a denial of service.
0:57
And so you have to control that. That's sovereignty.
1:00
Um, sovereignty means that that you have the ability to determine your own, your
1:06
own destiny. And you might.
1:08
You might need teamwork. You might need collaboration, might part
1:10
partnership and support from other people.
1:12
But at some, you know, you have you have agency.
1:15
More than 100 data center projects have been blocked or delayed in the U.S.
1:18
just so far this year. There's push back in Europe too.
1:21
You have IPOs getting delayed, getting scrapped.
1:25
Are we seeing cracks in the eye boom. And could you be left holding the bag.
1:30
The capabilities of I know that we know what it can do.
1:33
That's never going to go back. So I think I think a lot of many ways
1:36
it's fundamental and it's uh, uh, irrespective of, of um, uh, near-term,
1:43
near-term challenges. Now the near-term challenges are somehow
1:46
also so self-imposed. I think we're, you know, as a as an
1:50
industry, we do we're doing a horrible job, um, associating, uh, this
1:57
technology, which is built by people. Um, it's engineered obviously.
2:02
Uh, we obviously know enough about how it works to make it better every day.
2:07
And, um, uh, because we're building it, we have every possibility to to advance
2:12
it safely and responsibly. And so I think in a lot of ways, uh, the
2:17
narrative of the industry is, is really out of control and not to be stopped.
2:21
Um, uh, but that's, that's just, uh, an industry growing up, you know, and
2:26
that's you probably remember the good old days of the internet and, um, uh,
2:30
the industry grew up. And I think that our industry is, is,
2:34
uh, many of the young companies are going through their growing pains and,
2:39
uh, they're growing, of course, incredibly fast, which I'm very proud
2:42
of. And, um, they're just incredible
2:44
engineers and really bright, bright computer scientists.
2:48
Um, there's a there's an accountability responsibility, uh, that goes along with
2:52
building companies that I think there was there's just growing into a major
2:55
investor in anthropic and OpenAI. These are two of your major customers as
2:59
well. What happens when the frontier Labs go
3:02
public? How much is at stake and what do they
3:04
need to prove? What I would say is that that, um, uh,
3:08
I'm delighted to see their success. I mean, first of all, these are the two
3:12
fastest growing technology companies in history.
3:14
Their revenues are real, and their profits generated from the revenues are
3:17
real. This last year, this last six months, I
3:21
went through a transition. It used to be unprofitable, unusable.
3:26
Very curious. Very, you know, great potential.
3:29
And now we're using it in real work. It's productive and profitable.
3:33
It's generating enormous profits for them.
3:35
And so because the tokens are now profitable and because the token demand
3:40
is so incredible, it's the reason why they want more
3:43
compute, because the compute translates to more tokens to more profits.
3:46
And that flywheel for them is going to be great.
3:49
And so I think I think their their IPO is just, you know of course another day
3:53
in their journey. And it's a very important day for them.
3:56
And they raise a lot of money and um, that they can apply that money to, to
4:01
fueling their growth. And so, so I think that's the two labs.
4:05
Now we're just looking at the tip of the iceberg with the two of them.
4:07
Because in the most, most, if you will, visible.
4:11
But if you look at the eye industry, it's broad and it's extremely deep.
4:16
It's also extremely expensive. I mean, when the when investors see what
4:19
I really costs, are they going to be happy or, you know, are they going to
4:22
decide the numbers don't add up the cost of eye.
4:26
The cost of a token Is reducing by 3040 times per year.
4:31
And so I think that the the cost of tokens is decreasing.
4:35
The cost of intelligence is also decreasing.
4:38
And so the benefits of customers are actually going up exponentially.
4:42
That said AI is deeply unpopular and people are scared.
4:47
Sam Altman, Elon Musk all say we should slow down.
4:51
You have been very consistent in your optimism.
4:54
What do you see that they don't? And how can they be so wrong?
4:59
Uh, first of all, safety is is paramount.
5:00
Uh, first of all, safety is is paramount.
5:02
And we in order for us to to realize the incredible potentials and and the
5:07
optimistic future that that we all hope for and and believe in.
5:12
Um, we have to develop the technology safely, responsibly.
5:16
I believe we have agency in how this technology advances.
5:21
We should accelerate the development of open shell.
5:24
We should accelerate the the integration of this containment technology into AI
5:30
systems. We should accelerate the development of
5:32
monitoring technologies and I is the monitor eyes.
5:36
So we should accelerate AI technology. And so I think that there's a fallacy.
5:42
I think it's it's it's in fact a mistake to separate
5:48
AI capability. And I safety as if there's two
5:50
conversations. It's one conversation.
5:53
If one of the labs was doing something that was too dangerous, that you felt
5:56
was too dangerous, would Nvidia stop selling to them?
5:59
It's a hypothetical, but of course, yeah.
6:01
You know, it's a hypothetical, but of course.
6:03
But before you do so you would have that conversation.
6:06
And you know that we don't run other people's companies and, and, um, there's
6:12
a limit to, to the judgment by which we apply, uh, to other companies use of our
6:19
technology. Our technology is general purpose.
6:21
And so imposing our values on some other people's companies and it want less, for
6:29
example, institutions or countries, uh, that's really largely out of balance.
6:33
But if we if we know for certain that an applicant that an application of our
6:38
technology is bringing harm to people. Of course.
