0:00

Talk to us about you, the business, how things are going right now with so much

0:06

being thrown at companies and CEOs right now, especially with I.

0:11

Yeah. Good morning.

0:12

Thanks for having me. Hi, Carol.

0:13

Hi. Just, um.

0:15

Uh, never a dull moment. That is for sure.

0:18

And, um, at Logitech, we've we've been dealt a lot of body blows in the last

0:21

couple of years between tariffs, uh, wars and now chip shortages.

0:26

Um, not an easy time, but we were super proud to deliver our 10th consecutive

0:31

quarter of growth, um, in the last, uh, earnings report.

0:35

Um, at really record margins. Um, so the business is strong and, um,

0:40

we're proud of that. And we'll continue to battle on.

0:43

Well, we were talking about obviously, how you're known for your mouses, the

0:47

keyboards, everyone at some point, whether they realized it or not, where

0:50

it's using your products. So how do you kind of keep up to speed

0:53

when you have technology changing so rapidly?

0:56

And of course, I. Yeah, absolutely.

1:00

So we celebrated our 45th anniversary last week.

1:04

Um, which makes us positively ancient, right?

1:06

For a tech company. Our tech start up last less than five

1:09

years. So, um, but from the beginning, we've

1:13

always been the interface for the connection between technology and the

1:18

human. So, um, from the very first computers,

1:22

uh, to laptops to tablets to phones. And now I, we connect the human and the

1:29

technology, and we do that with physical hardware, with a lot of software inside.

1:35

Um, but actually today, AI is a real tailwind for us because it offers all

1:40

kinds of new ways to connect humans and technology.

1:44

We'll go there because, you know, um, when we were prepping for this segment,

1:50

um, one of our producers, Elizabeth, uh, kind of brought up an interesting point.

1:55

We talked so much about genetic AI, and I am curious, you know, a genetic AI.

2:00

You're going to be talking to your computer a lot.

2:02

You know, so if there are agents and I, you know, won't people not need to use

2:07

their keyboards and mouses so much and things like that, like tell us how you

2:11

guys evolve along with that. Absolutely.

2:14

People are looking for control. Um, and we just run this big study as

2:18

well called control tomorrow. Um, but people feel a lot of people feel

2:23

that, you know, technology is a little bit out of control today.

2:26

So, um, 77% say that when they're in control of their tech, they feel better.

2:35

They get more out of life. Whereas three out of five also say that

2:38

when there's tech friction and they feel out of control, um, they get down there

2:43

depressed even after working hours. What is what is being in control and not

2:47

in control of of tech in this in being control means, you know, you're the one

2:53

who's controlling. There's not a bunch of agents running

2:55

around just doing things, and you're not aware, and your stuff ends up on sites

3:01

where you didn't wanted to. All the stories we hear, there's a lot

3:04

of concern out there, um, with regular consumers.

3:07

So they're looking for control. And what we also found that two out of

3:12

three people feel more in control when there's a physical element to that

3:17

control. And we know we all know how it feels

3:19

when you you know, when you click and you say yes rather than the agent just

3:24

running amok when you're wearing a headset with great sound and when you

3:28

can say, yes, uh, before the agent and does something.

3:32

So yeah, physical stuff plays a big role.

3:36

And that offers all kinds of new opportunities for us in terms of

3:39

innovation. Um, and by the way, you know, my sales

3:42

were up 12% for us last quarter. So this lot of the the mouse is gone.

3:47

Okay. Interesting.

3:48

I have a mouse right next to me. I have a mouse when I use my laptop.

3:51

Hey, speaking of control, I'd love to. You know, in this world where supply

3:57

chains are constrained, um, everybody's competing for a lot of stuff globally.

4:01

Give us an update on your supply chain, the availability of chips, following,

4:05

um, you had a fab, uh, fire at one of your suppliers or your supplier.

4:10

And I'm curious, you had a $200 million sales impact in the December quarter.

4:14

Does that still hold? And does supply normalize after the

4:17

December quarter? Yeah.

4:20

So unfortunately, as we all know, chip chips are in short supply.

4:24

And this thought of I my chips is absolutely real for everyone out there.

4:28

Um, we have an absolutely great operations team.

4:32

So we've been okay. Um, but then we did have an accident.

4:36

Not us had an accident, but our one of our main chip suppliers had a serious

4:40

accident, um, at their fab back in June. Um, and they didn't start back up till

4:46

early October. Um, so that's, that's been that's been

4:50

difficult that we signaled that that would have about a $20 million sales

4:54

impact, um, in the September quarter and up to 200 million in the December

5:00

impact, um, in the September quarter and up to 200 million in the December

5:00

quarter. Um, we've obviously been working very,

5:03

very hard to mitigate those impacts, but there will be an impact from a supplier

5:08

being closed for an entire quarter. Does it normalize after the December

5:12

quarter? Yes it does.

5:15

Okay. Good to know.

5:16

Good to know. You know, one of the other things I just

5:18

want to bring into the conversation, um, you know, component inflation.

5:22

Everyone's talked about it, right. We've heard Apple talk about it.

5:25

How are you able to preserve your gross margins, given that component inflation

5:30

that you've been seeing in recent quarters?

5:31

How tough is that and how do you do it? Yeah.

5:35

So our gross margins have been excellent.

5:37

Um, in, uh, you know, 44% range, which for hardware companies is absolutely

5:42

kind of unique and outstanding. Um, how do we do it?

5:46

Um, mainly from designing for values. So we're constantly looking at new cost

5:52

savings that we can do without affecting quality.

5:55

In fact, sometimes our interventions actually are better and cheaper and more

5:59

sustainable. Um, so a killer team that is super,

6:03

super cost conscious and constantly designing for value.

6:07

And then in recent, in the recent past, we've also taken, uh, which we don't

6:12

usually do one price increase, uh, across the line on our video

6:16

conferencing business, which was most affected, uh, in memory chips

6:19

especially. So we took a 10% price increase on

6:23

global video conferencing, which is about 15% of our business.

6:26

So it's not a huge part. Um, and that's been that's been fine.

6:31

Um, because kind of everyone in the industry had to, has had to do the same

6:35

thing. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg News had an

6:37

exclusive story this week talking about how Apple has this upcoming push when it

6:41

comes to those home devices. Does that create opportunities for you

6:45

with those home devices or even other Apple products like iPhones?

6:50

Um, we're focused mostly on work and play, so we're to market leaders in

6:57

productivity devices at work. You mentioned the headset earlier too,

7:02

because then I automatically am going to think of zoom, obviously, that we've

7:05

used so much in recent years, especially during Covid and coming out of Covid.

7:08

So is that more of the opportunity for you?

7:10

Not as much when it comes to Apple products or some of its rivals.

7:14

Absolutely. The other big opportunity is gaming.

7:17

So we're at a global market leader in gaming.

7:20

Um, gaming, peripherals and gaming is absolutely mainstreaming.

7:24

Just continues to grow. GTA six launch coming up.

7:28

It's going to be a really exciting quarter, uh, and quarters ahead in

7:31

gaming. Um, but certainly headsets is another

7:35

big space for us. We, um, we're one of the global leaders

7:38

in that space, both in gaming headsets and headsets for work.

7:41

We just launched a beautiful new headset, uh, actually, last week, the

7:45

Zone Vive Pro, which you can use both for work and life.

7:49

Uh, gorgeous. So, um, yeah, just lots of opportunity

7:53

in the age of AI for design led, software enabled hardware, which is what

7:57

we do. GTA Grand Theft Auto, right?

8:01

It sucks. Right?

8:02

That's right. I know everybody knows it's pretty

8:04

powerful. But I do want to go back to the Apple

8:07

question. Forgive me if I misheard.

8:09

So is there an opportunity for you with the Apple Home products?

8:14

Home is not so much of our focus. Um, we we do work with Apple very

8:19

closely in areas like education where we make tablet keyboards, Logitech tablet

8:24

keyboards for for Apple iPads. Um, we've also worked with Apple on

8:29

their Apple Vision Pro and a stylus to work in virtual reality.

8:33

Again, very important in the age of AI. So we do work with Apple, but home is

8:37

not our top priority. Can we make the Vision Pro lighter?

8:40

According to Mark Gurman, it's a pretty heavy, um, little piece there.

8:44

Um, what are your thoughts on corporate I adoption?

8:46

Uh, and the impact you guys are having on your business, how you guys are using

8:50

it. And I think it's interesting,

8:51

considering the study you did and the findings you hear and see.

8:54

Yeah, yeah. So we're big adopters.

8:57

We're a company of engineers and designers.

8:59

So, um, they they are on the forefront of this.

9:02

Anyway, um, we've built more than 2000 internally agents ourselves in all kinds

9:09

of spaces, starting, you know, some of the areas that I'm really excited about,

9:13

AI and manufacturing, um, we're seeing massive productivity increases in

9:18

manufacturing from the AI agents we've built, um, of course, in coding and

9:25

customer service, which every company on the planet is doing.

9:28

But I would also say in areas like marketing, um, where, um, today, unlike

9:34

a few years ago, we've got so many creators working on our business,

9:40

putting out, you know, thousands of creators around the world, putting out

9:43

tens of thousands of pieces of content. Humans can optimize for that in real

9:48

time. Yeah.

9:49

Um, but I just can't. So.

9:51

Yeah. Um, this is work that humans really

9:54

cannot do. So we're not replacing any people, but

9:57

we're doing a better job using agents in marketing with more ROI.

10:00

we're doing a better job using agents in marketing with more ROI.

10:01

And I love it when that all comes together.
